Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an innovative faith formation method developed for the 3-6 year old child. Based on the Montessori method of education, children are invited to learn the Catholic faith through a hands-on approach. This allows them to experience the beauty and knowability of our faith from an early age.
The child is introduced to the early life of Jesus, His ministry on earth, His parables, and the sacramental life of the Church. In addition, each child builds skills necessary for prayer, such as cultivating silence and learning the unique language of prayer.
Through the Parable of the Good Shepherd, children form an understanding of Jesus as the one who calls them by name and knows them individually. They first come to know Jesus personally in the way he described himself, rather than through rote memorization. This strong foundation allows them to build their knowledge of Christ and His Church as they grow and mature.
The Classroom is an environment prepared especially for the young child. All materials are real, small, and usable by the child independently. This fosters confidence, independence, and ensures that the dignity of the child is upheld.
